Details: According to Klitschko, under the USAID International Technical Assistance Program, the Energy Security Project provided Kyivteploenergo [provider of centralised heating and hot water supply services for residents and facilities of the capital of Ukraine – ed.] with 4 excavators and over 130 generators free of charge.

Quote: "New JCB backhoe loaders will help emergency workers to quickly repair damage to heating networks and restore heating supply to Kyiv residents.

Modern excavators have already been delivered to the capital and will soon be involved in the work. Currently, 38 emergency crews of Kyivteploenergo are working in all districts of the city. Every day, they repair 30-40 damages to heating networks. The new modern special equipment will allow us to quickly and accurately carry out excavation, and thus accelerate the performance of emergency works," Klitschko wrote.

Details: Klitschko added that the diesel generators provided by USAID were transferred to boiler houses, thermal power plants, heating supply stations, as well as for the needs of dispatching and communication. According to him, these are the facilities that are vital to provide independent power sources.

Quote: "With the help of generators, it will be possible to reduce interruptions in the supply of heating to Kyiv residents in case of accidents and to establish communication between the divisions of Kyivteploenergo in case of prolonged absence of electricity supply.

We strive to organise the uninterrupted operation of the heating infrastructure so that medical institutions, social sphere and residential buildings have heating supply. Therefore, first of all, we provided generators to those boiler houses where there are difficulties with backup power consumption for equipment. This will reduce the period of absence of heating supply in the homes of Kyiv residents during power outages," the mayor of Kyiv wrote.

Details: Klitschko wrote that along with the assistance of the USAID Energy Security Project, 11 km of heating networks damaged by missile attacks were replaced in Kyiv this year.

The US government donated pipes and equipment worth US$1.3 million for this purpose.
