Ukraine’s General Staff assesses risk of Russia launching offensive from Belarus

The General Staff of Ukraine's Armed Forces is assessing the probability of a repeat of Russian attack from the territory of Belarus as low.

Quote: "Taking into account the available data, it can be inferred that at this moment, that the probability of the enemy launching an offensive operation from the territory of the Republic of Belarus remains low."

At the same time, the Belarus State Border Committee has extended restrictions on the entry and stay of citizens in the border-adjacent areas of Gomel Oblast that border Kyiv and Chernihiv oblasts of Ukraine until 1 March 2023.

According to the information available to Ukrainska Pravda,  the campaigning for volunteers to join territorial defence units continued last week in the areas of Brest Oblast (Belarus) that border Ukraine. During the interviews, candidates are being persuaded that if a martial law was introduced in the country, they would be issued weapons and ammunition, and their main task would be to protect and defend communities while being members of the established territorial defence units.

Details: Hromov also recalled that the House of Representatives of Belarus approved a draft law introducing the death penalty for treason for military personnel and representatives of state authorities. Hromov said that such a move by the Lukashenko regime might have been one of the steps in preparation for participation in the war against Ukraine.
