Russians "hunt for" draft-age men in occupied territories
Cases of local residents going missing and men of draft age being forcefully "conscripted" to join occupation troops have become more frequent in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
Source: Oleksandr Motuzianyk, spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, in a briefing at the Military Media Center
Quote: "The number of cases of local residents going missing has increased, as has the raiding and hunting for men of draft age, who are then being forcefully transferred to military enlistment offices in order to implement a conscription plan in the temporarily occupied territories."
Details: According to Motuzianyk, introducing so-called martial law in the temporarily occupied territories of Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, and Luhansk oblasts is aimed at further enhancing the occupation regime and pressuring the local population.
Background:
- Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the decision to introduce martial law in the annexed parts of the Ukrainian Oblasts of Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk, and Donetsk on 19 October during a meeting of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.
