Naftogaz asks US to provide Ukraine with gas to get through winter
USAID is considering providing operational assistance to Ukraine to get through the winter. The national joint-stock company Naftogaz (Ukraine’s state oil and gas production company) is discussing with the US aid in the form of additional gas volumes.
It is reported by the press service of Naftogaz.
Oleksii Chernyshov, the Chief Executive Officer of Naftogaz, has said that due to constant Russian attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure, more than 300 energy facilities and 450 kilometres of gas pipelines have been damaged. As a result, Ukraine was forced to use additional volumes of coal and gas to produce electricity.
"These factors have led to the fact that we have an urgent need to increase the volume of our gas storage facilities, and we call on the United States, our reliable partner, to help solve this issue," Chernyshov added.
The parties have also discussed Ukraine’s need for operational assistance in the form of equipment and materials. These are methanol, gas compressors, diesel generators and gas production equipment. For her part, Erin McKee, USAID Assistant Administrator in the Bureau for Europe and Eurasia, has assured that the Agency is working on Naftogaz's request for needs.
