Emergency power outages all over Ukraine
Emergency shutdowns are being implemented throughout the territory of Ukraine on Monday, 28 November, due to the rapid growth of the deficit in the energy system.
It is reported by the press service of Ukrenergo (Ukrainian national energy company).
The reason for the growth of the power deficit was the emergency shutdown of units at several power plants, the company notes. Meanwhile, consumption continues to grow due to worsening weather conditions. Currently, the deficit in the energy system is 27%.
At the same time, Ukrenergo emphasises that after eliminating the causes of emergency shutdowns, the units of power plants will continue to operate, which will reduce the deficit in the power system and reduce the volume of consumer restrictions. Controlled emergency shutdowns enable the energy system to be balanced and emergency situations in power grids to be avoided.
DTEK (leading Ukrainian energy company) explains that stabilisation shutdowns occur for a predetermined amount of electricity provided by the operator Ukrenergo. Since regional power distribution companies know in advance how much electricity consumption needs to be reduced, they can evenly distribute it among different consumers and draw up a schedule.
There are also emergency shutdowns in case the power system needs to be balanced for more than the scheduled volume. Such a load on the system cannot be predicted in advance, and dispatch centres of the regional power distribution companies receive a command for additional shutdowns and must execute it within 15 minutes.
