Details: The measures are being undertaken as part of the Security Service’s systematic efforts to counter subversive activities by Russian secret services in Ukraine.
Quote: "There is a growing risk of crimes being committed against the security of Ukraine’s citizens, state sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence, as a result of Russia’s military aggression.
With the direct participation of representatives of the Church, law enforcement officers are conducting an inspection of the grounds and premises of the diocese to identify prohibited items and conduct checks on persons within the diocese regarding involvement in illegal activities to the detriment of the state."
Details: The SSU explained that the said measures are being undertaken in order to:
- Verify information on intentions to use the diocese as a centre of the "Russian world";
- Preventing the use of Ukrainian Orthodox Church premises so as to conceal citizens of the aggressor country, store prohibited items, etc.;
- Protection of the population from provocations and terrorist acts.
