Lies and desecration of invincibility centres are unforgivable, Zelenskyy tells Klychko

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine, has rebuked the Kyiv city administration for the "desecration" of invincibility centres in Kyiv and its failure to properly equip them.

Quote: "Invincibility centres have been opened throughout the country. But I know that unfortunately, the local authorities have not done a good job in every city. In particular, there are many complaints in Kyiv.

In fact, only the invincibility centres at the base of the State Emergency Service and at Kyiv railway station have been equipped properly. Other centres still need to be improved, to put it mildly. Please pay attention. The people of Kyiv deserve better protection.

As of this evening, 600,000 consumers have been disconnected from the grid in the city. Many Kyiv residents have been without electricity for over 20 or even 30 hours. I expect quality work from the mayor's office.

No one will forgive the desecration of the Kyiv invincibility centres, nor the lies in reports on various levels. Please take this more seriously."

Background:

  • On 1 November, Vitalii Klychko, the Mayor of Kyiv, reported that around 1,000 heating centres would be set up in Kyiv to offer city residents a place to warm up in case of emergencies during winter.
  • The Kyiv City State Administration has shared photos of such heating centres and reported that they will have power and are being equipped with heating systems, toilets, canteens, and places for rest; they will also offer warm clothes and warm blankets. Those coming to such centres will have access to news and most up-to-date information about the city, as well as psychological support.
  • On 22 November, President Zelenskyy said that over 4,000 "invincibility centres" have been set up in Ukraine. They will be activated in the event of a prolonged power outage due to any future large-scale Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
  • On 23 November, the Office of the President of Ukraine announced that "invincibility centres" have been set up across the country and shared photos of what they look like. Invincibility centres are already working in some oblasts.
  • On 24 November, the Kyiv City Military Administration reported that the first 500 invincibility centres have been set up in Ukraine’s capital. The municipal government has also urged business owners and leaders to set up their own invincibility centres.
