Death of a two-day-old baby: What is known about attack on maternity ward in Zaporizhzhia

On the night of 22-23 November, the Russian invaders attacked a hospital in the town of Vilniansk in Zaporizhzhia Oblast. A missile destroyed the two-storey building of the clinic’s maternity ward.

A two-day-old baby died in the attack. The baby’s mother was rescued from under the rubble, as were two doctors.

Quote from Liashko: "A baby died in a Russian attack on the maternity ward of Vilniansk hospital. The baby’s mother received minor injuries, but this is only the physical damage. She is being given psychological support," Health Minister Viktor Liashko said in a comment to Ukrainska Pravda.Zhyttia.

Details: The condition of another victim, an intensive care physician, is assessed as serious, as he has significant burns (37%).

The other injured doctor received medical assistance and will continue her treatment on an outpatient basis, Liashko said.

Nataliia Musiienko, the Mayor of Vilniansk, also spoke about the condition of the injured mother in a comment to Suspilne.

Quote from Musiienko: "This is not even about the wards, it's about the fact that we lost a newborn baby tonight, who was only two days old. A baby died.

The mother was sent home, she is in a state of shock. The baby’s body has been sent for a forensic examination."

"The injured are receiving medical treatment. No one can bring back that tiny life that could have become a big and happy one," Liashko wrote.
