Russian occupation authorities in Crimea claim "high level of terrorist threat"
The "yellow level of terrorist threat" has been introduced in temporarily occupied Crimea, although only in some areas of the peninsula.
Source: Sergey Aksyonov, head of the occupation administration of Crimea, on Telegram
Quote from Aksyonov: "In order to ensure the security and anti-terrorist protection of the Republic of Crimea and its citizens, a high ["yellow" – ed.] level of terrorist threat will be in effect in the territory of a number of municipalities and facilities of the Republic from 20:00 on 22 November 2022 to 20:00 on 7 December 2022."
Details: According to Aksyonov, this decision applies to the city districts of Armiansk, Dzhankoi, Kerch and Krasnoperekopsk, as well as the Dzhankoi, Krasnoperekopsk and Lenin districts of Crimea.
The "yellow level of terrorist threat" is being introduced at facilities of Crimea’s so-called Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Housing and Communal Services, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Fuel and Energy, Ministry of Industrial Policy, and the State Committee for Water Management and Land Reclamation.
Aksyonov says the situation in the region is "completely under control" and "the security of the Republic of Crimea and its residents and visitors is fully ensured by law enforcement agencies".
Background:
- Earlier, the "authorities" of Russian-occupied Crimea ordered fortification work to be carried out on the peninsula "to provide security for residents of Crimea".
- Prior to that, the Kremlin claimed that the security of transport infrastructure is to be boosted in temporarily occupied Crimea as it is apparently in danger because of the activity of Ukrainian secret services, and reiterated that transport infrastructure should not be guarded by unauthorised individuals.
- Ben Hodges, the former Commander of US Army Europe, believes that Ukraine could liberate Crimea next year because Russian forces stationed on the peninsula will be too vulnerable.
