Sunday, 20 November 2022, 09:49

Ukraine has withdrawn its membership from the International Centre for Scientific and Technical Information (ICSTI) [not to be confused with the International Council for Scientific and Technical Information - ed.].

According to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine decided to withdraw from the Agreement on the establishment of ICSTI on 18 November.

The reason was "unacceptability of cooperation with Russia in the scientific and technical sphere," because Russia is an aggressor country.

Quote: "The agreement was developed taking into account the decision of the Council of the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) of 8 March, 2022, on the inadmissibility of cooperation with the aggressor country in the scientific and technical sphere," the Ministry emphasised.

The International Centre for Scientific and Technical Information has been functioning since 27 February, 1969. It has been founded by 22 states, and the headquarters of the Centre is located in Moscow and has the status of a diplomatic mission.

ICSTI is included as an independent international organisation in the UN register.

At the same time, Ukraine became a member of the organisation on 18 June, 1993. The functions of the organisation, which ensured the participation of the country in the activities of the Centre, were entrusted to the Ukrainian Institute of Scientific, Technical and Economic Information.

It should be noted that the International Centre for Scientific and Technical Information organises research and development in the field of new information technologies, as well as establishing and providing access to global information systems and data networks.
