"This attack may have an impact not only on the energy system of Ukraine, but also on the energy systems of some of our neighbours," the Minister of Energy wrote.
He noted that this attack on the energy system was the most massive since the beginning of the war.
The Russian forces are hitting the entire Ukrainian energy system - both generation plants and the electricity transmission system. Emergency shutdowns were introduced in all oblasts.
"After suffering defeats in the military and international arenas, the enemy is making another attempt at terrorist revenge and is trying to cause maximum damage to our energy system on the eve of winter," Halushchenko stressed.
The minister called on Ukrainians to be understanding of the critical situation concerning energy supply, to keep calm and trust the energy industry and the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Background:
On Tuesday, 15 November, the Russians targeted critical infrastructure facilities in a number of regional centres with massive missile strikes: Lviv, Zhytomyr, Rivne, Khmelnytskyi, Kharkiv and other cities were partially cut off.
Ukrenergo [the national energy company in Ukraine] is forced to start emergency blackouts to balance the power system and avoid equipment accidents.
