Quote: "Glory to Ukraine, with such words began my conversation with ethnic Ukrainian Justin Tkachenko, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Papua New Guinea.

Yesterday I had a telephone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Papua New Guinea. This is a country in Oceania, which is located 12 thousand kilometres from Ukraine. My colleague's name is Justin Tkachenko and he is an ethnic Ukrainian.

Justin's grandparents moved from Kyiv to Australia. He was born in Melbourne, but then decided to build a life in Papua New Guinea. He started doing business, hosted a popular show on television, and later was elected to the National Parliament.

Prior to his appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Justin Tkachenko held the positions of Minister of Sports and Tourism, Land and Land Planning, Housing Development and Urban Planning of Papua New Guinea, supervised the organisation of the Pacific Games in 2015, and has the title of Knight of the Order of the British Empire.

..It was the first contact between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Papua New Guinea, which still (!) do not have diplomatic relations.

I suggested to Justin to rectify this situation as soon as possible, by signing a protocol on the establishment of diplomatic relations using modern technologies online. Previously, Ukraine became the first state in the world to equate a digital passport with a plastic or paper one, and now it can become the first state in the world to initiate the digital establishment of diplomatic relations."

Details: Kuleba noted that during the conversation that they agreed to start a regular political dialogue and increase trade.

In addition to Papua New Guinea, Ukraine does not have diplomatic relations with four other countries of the Pacific region: Palau, Nauru, Kiribati and Tonga, as well as Bhutan in South Asia and Somalia in Africa (and those countries with which we have terminated diplomatic relations).

Kuleba said that he had given instructions to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to intensify negotiations to establish diplomatic relations with countries with which they have not yet been established.
