Ukrainian military warns about retreating Russians leaving "many traps" behind in Kherson Oblast

While retreating from Kherson Oblast, the Russian military reportedly mined the land and buildings, "forgot their own" and "did not give up positions without a fight".

Quote: "We are positioned on one bank [of the Dnipro River – ed.]. The enemy is positioned on the other bank. Our units are almost a stone throw away from the right bank.

At this point, certain operations are taking place as close as on the approaches to the city of Kherson. The operation to recapture it has partially begun. However, it is still too early to say that everything has been handled and under control."

Details: Humeniuk noted that the Russians did not give up everything without a fight. They did not leave the territory just like that.

"Many locations are mined. Many snares. Many booby traps.

Given the internal disorder in the Russian army, they may have left behind organised groups and equally, they may have forgotten some units due to negligence," the head of the press centre said.

Humeniuk explained that Russian invaders were instructed, in case of retreat, to destroy their military uniforms, change into civilian clothes and try to evacuate to the left bank of the Dnipro River by their own means.

"There have been reports of forgotten soldiers resolving to hand themselves in to Ukrainian Armed Forces in order for Ukraine to replenish the [prisoner of war -ed.] exchange fund," Humeniuk said.

"How many forgotten soldiers remain, it is very difficult to say at this point," the head of the press centre added.
