IAEA inspects South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has completed its inspection of the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant, which was deemed successful.
This was reported by the press service of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine.
The inspection was held from 7 to 9 November, and its objective was to verify the absence of undeclared nuclear material.
The inspection was carried out by IAEA inspectors with the participation of an inspector from the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate under the Agreement between Ukraine and the IAEA in connection with the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
Background:
Following the Russian Federation's false statements about "dirty bombs", IAEA inspectors have completed inspections at three facilities in Ukraine at Ukraine’s request; no signs of undeclared nuclear activity and materials were found.
Reminder: The Director General of the IAEA confirmed that IAEA inspectors would conduct verification activities at two facilities in Ukraine in response to Ukraine's request.
Ukraine made this request after the Russian Federation had made false allegations of activities related to the possible production of "dirty bombs" at two facilities.
Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers has approved changing the name of the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant from Yuzhno-Ukrainskaya [Russian] to Pivdennoukrainska [Ukrainian].
