Authorities decided not to celebrate New Year in Saint Petersburg and spend money to support conscripts – governor

The administration of the city of Saint-Petersburg (Russia) decided to cancel New Year celebrations and use the saved money to equip the conscripts and volunteers who go to war in Ukraine.

Quote: "At the meeting with the members of the city council we made a decision to cancel the planned New Year celebrations.
The saved money will be used to buy additional equipment for the volunteers and those who were mobilised, according to a special article in the budget of St. Petersburg, which allows [us] to buy the additional equipment".
Details: Beglov states that concerts on the Palace Square and the Nevsky Prospect and a firework, as well as a charity reception in the Tauride Palace in St. Petersburg were cancelled.
At the same time, the authorities decided not to cancel "the New Year programs" for families with children and traditional New Year celebrations for children.
