Gagnidze was 40 years old and was serving in the 25th Airborne Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. A total of 23 Georgians, including Gagnidze, have been killed while fighting on Ukraine’s side since February 2022.

This number includes both volunteers from Georgia who arrived in Ukraine following Russia’s full-scale invasion and ethnic Georgians who had been living in Ukraine prior to the full-scale war.

A funeral for Mikhail Kaplanishvili, who voluntarily joined the Ukrainian Armed Forces and was killed in Luhansk Oblast, was held in Georgia several days ago.
