Russian occupation forces have planted mines in and around the cities, towns and villages in eastern and southern Ukraine that have recently been liberated at around twice the density as in Kyiv and Chernihiv oblasts in spring.

Quote from Monastyrskyi: "Earlier we would talk about clearing mines in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts. Now we unfortunately are forced to consider clearing away mines across the majority of our country. Mines have been planted almost everywhere [in the recently liberated territories of Ukraine - ed.].

There, mines have been planted twice as densely as in Kyiv or Chernihiv oblasts. This is of course connected to the duration of the occupation by the enemy, but also with the fact that they are increasingly using this tactic to prevent our troops from advancing; that is why they are trying to plant mines everywhere."

Details: The minister said that over the course of the past several months, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service has detected over 250,000 explosive devices, with another 130,000 such devices detected by the National Police.

Monastyrskyi additionally reported the number of bodies of people killed during the Russian occupation that the police has found on the liberated territories.

"In Donetsk Oblast, we have found 268 bodies in the liberated territories and have identified 175 of them, slightly more than half. Another 765 bodies have been found in Kharkiv Oblast; so far, 453 of them have been identified. In Kherson Oblast, where the police control only a few towns and villages, 44 bodies have been found, of which three have been identified," the minister explained.
