Russia backs out of Black Sea Grain Initiative, supposedly in response to Sevastopol explosions
EUROPEAN PRAVDA — SATURDAY, 29 OCTOBER 2022, 17:59
Russia has announced that it is suspending its participation in the Black Sea Grain Initiative, supposedly because of the "terrorist attack" in Sevastopol Bay on the morning of Saturday, 29 October.
Russia’s Defence Ministry announced this on Saturday, reports European Pravda.
In particular, the Russian Defence Ministry stressed that the reason for withdrawing from the initiative is the "terrorist attack" carried out by the "Kyiv regime", allegedly with the participation of British specialists. The "terrorist attack" was targeted at ships of the Black Sea Fleet and civilian vessels.
Igor Konashenkov, a spokesman for the Russian Defence Ministry, said earlier on Saturday that the attack was targeted at ships of the Black Sea Fleet that were involved in ensuring the security of the grain corridor.
Konashenkov also accused the British Navy of planning and implementing the alleged "terrorist attacks" on the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines.
He claimed that British military personnel from the same unit had trained Ukrainian troops for the "attack" on Sevastopol on Saturday morning, and that these British military personnel are currently in Ochakiv, Ukraine.
The UK Defence Ministry called Russia’s accusations "inventions of an epic scale".
It is worth noting that the Grain Initiative was set to end in November, and Russia had been threatening to withdraw if its demands are not met.
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, has called on countries around the world to put pressure on Moscow to prevent attempts to block the extension of the grain corridor.
Recently, about 150 vessels have been stuck near the Bosphorus due to the actions of the Russian side.
