Russia will take the necessary measures to ensure its security amid the strengthening of the nuclear component in NATO's military plans.

Quote from Grushko: "We cannot ignore the plans to modernise nuclear weapons, those free-fall bombs that are in Europe. The US is modernising them, increasing their accuracy and reducing the power of the nuclear charge, that is, they are turning these weapons into ‘battlefield weapons’, thereby reducing the nuclear threshold."

Grushko also noted that Moscow will take into account Europe’s replacement of American means of delivery for this type of weapon. He mentioned that the US is requiring its allies to purchase F-35 aircraft, a more modern model than the F-16.

Grushko stated that NATO has also decided to increase the number of exercises with a nuclear scenario.

Previously, Politico reported that the United States has accelerated the fielding of a more accurate version of its mainstay nuclear bomb to NATO bases in Europe by several months.

The arrival of the upgraded B61-12 air-dropped gravity bomb, originally slated for spring 2023, is now planned for December 2022. The White House announced this to NATO allies during a closed-door meeting in Brussels earlier in October.

Reminder: NATO is conducting nuclear deterrence exercises from 17 to 30 October.
