Russian occupiers admit trucks will not be allowed on Crimean Bridge until December

The Russian occupiers will not open the road section of the Kerch Bridge in occupied Crimea to trucks until December 2022.

Details: The Russian Ministry of Transport confirmed that trucks will be allowed onto the bridge no earlier than 1 December.

Trucks may cross the Kerch Strait by an alternative land road route, via the Kerch ferry, or by transferring to rail transportation.

Background:

  • On 8 October, according to the Russian side, a truck exploded on the Kerch Bridge, causing fuel tanks to catch fire. Two spans of the roadway of the Krasnodar [Russia]-Kerch branch collapsed.
  • Sergei Aksyonov, the "head" of the occupation administration of Crimea, announced that the movement of cars and buses across the Crimean Bridge had resumed.
  • On 18 October, during a speech in the State Duma [the lower house of the Russian Parliament], Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin announced that trucks weighing up to 40 tonnes were allowed to cross the Kerch Bridge.
