Russian universities will be forced to offer a class about "Russia’s great future"
UKRAINSKA PRAVDA — TUESDAY, 25 OCTOBER 2022, 19:38
A course analogous to an "ideological discipline" may soon appear in Russian universities, during which students will be taught about the successes of Russia and the decline of the West.
Source: [Latvia-based Russian media outlet] Meduza, citing which its own sources close to the Kremlin
Details: According to Meduza's sources, the development of the new course is overseen by the Kremlin’s internal political bloc, headed by Sergey Kiriyenko, the First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Administration of Russia, who also runs the Znanie (Knowledge) society, which will develop the course.
It is expected that the new subject will appear in universities as early as the next academic year. According to the Kremlin's plan, non-humanities majors will study it for one year, while those in humanities majors will do so for several years; history and political science majors will do so for their entire period of study.
According to Meduza sources, the "ideological course" will be divided into four units: the main "historical" unit, the "Cultural Code" unit, the "Russia in the World" unit, and the "Picture of the Future" unit.
The exact content of the units is still unknown, but all the likely overseers are as loyal as possible to the current government of Russia.
Quote: "One of the sources close to the Kremlin described the content of the new ‘ideological subject’ as follows: ‘The West is declining; it has constantly interfered with Russia, but its time has passed; we have a great future, a rich history and culture; we must use the moment of crisis and get everything from it."
Meanwhile, Meduza’s sources close to the President's Administration do not rule out that the new discipline will solve another "problem" of the current government, namely, it will help to finally purge Russian universities of "liberal teaching staff".
Background:
- Back in June 2022, plans appeared in Russia to include the study of the war against Ukraine, the annexation of Crimea and "the decisive role of the Soviet Union in the victory over Nazism" in the school history curriculum.
