The so-called "authorities" of the occupied city of Kherson have reported that Russian roubles are not being accepted in some places, especially when buying food products.

Details: According to Stremousov, "some people are refusing to accept roubles as payment for food products" in occupied Kherson. He claimed some residents of the city were trying to profit from the situation and threatened to punish them "according to wartime laws". Specifically, the collaborator threatened residents who "will not listen" to the occupying administration of the Kherson region with so-called deportation to Ukrainian-controlled territories.

Stremousov emphasised once again that "Kherson will not be surrendered."

Why this is important: On 23 October Ivan Fedorov, the mayor of Melitopol, reported that residents of the temporarily occupied territories had begun to get rid of Russian roubles on a massive scale. He said the Russians had previously artificially inflated the exchange rate for their currency, but because the liberation of the Kherson region is inevitable, the exchange rate has changed dramatically.

For instance, in occupied Kherson the rate is 5 roubles to the hryvnia, and at petrol stations roubles are not accepted at all.

Background: In May it was revealed that the Russian occupiers had introduced the Russian rouble as the currency in the temporarily occupied territory of Kherson Oblast.
