Chief of Russian General Staff spreads lie about Ukraine’s "dirty bomb" to Europe

On 24 October, the Russian Ministry of Defence reported on a telephone conversation between Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Federation, and Tony Radakin, Chief of the Defence Staff of the UK, in which Russia once again unreasonably accused Ukraine of intending to use a "dirty bomb".

Background:
- Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu has had similar telephone conversations with Western ministers on this topic. On 23 October, he called at least three defence ministers of NATO countries (France, Turkey and Britain) to tell them about the Ukrainian "dirty bomb".
- The Russian Federation claims that Ukraine is preparing a "dirty bomb" attack on its territory in order to put the blame on Russia.
- The US, UK and France have jointly rejected Russian claims that Ukraine is preparing to use a "dirty bomb".
- Dmytro Kuleba, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, has officially invited the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to send a mission to Ukraine in order to refute Moscow’s provocative allegations that Ukraine is developing a "dirty bomb".
