Details: The Russians have explained that they stole the monuments in order to "preserve unique artworks from shelling by the Ukrainian Armed Forces."
A bust of Suvorov was installed in Kherson in 1950 to mark the 150th anniversary of his death.
A statue of Admiral Ushakov was installed in 1957 near the building of the Kherson State Maritime Academy on the avenue of the same name.
Background:
- It was reported earlier that Russian occupation forces are transferring their military equipment and personnel from the right bank of the River Dnipro to the left bank in Kherson Oblast following recent successes of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in liberating the oblast.
- Representatives of the occupation "administration" of Kherson and the oblast are planning to take approximately 50,000-60,000 residents from 4 right-bank districts in the oblast to the left bank of the Dnipro river or to Russia due to the alleged preparation of a counteroffensive by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
- Collaborator Volodymyr Saldo has announced that the so-called leadership of Kherson Oblast has decided to move to the left bank [of the Dnipro River] due to the alleged preparation of a counteroffensive by Ukrainian Armed Forces.
- The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has predicted that the Russian military command may withdraw experienced personnel from the right bank of the Dnipro river in Kherson Oblast and leave conscripts there to deter the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ offensive.
- President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that the Russians have mined the dam and units of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant (KHPP) and are planning to commit a false-flag [Ukraine’s – ed.] terrorist attack.
