Survey finds 86 percent of Ukrainians ready to resist Russia despite bombardments, only 10% in favour of talks
UKRAINSKA PRAVDA – MONDAY, 24 OCTOBER 2022, 11:47
A recent survey has shown that 86% of Ukrainians believe that the armed resistance against Russian aggression should continue, even if Russia keeps bombarding Ukrainian cities.
Source: Kyiv International Institute of Sociology survey conducted on 21-23 October
Details: The study has shown that 71% of respondents strongly agree that Ukraine should offer armed resistance, despite the ongoing massive bombardment of Ukrainian cities and destruction of infrastructure. Another 15% of respondents also somewhat agree with this. Only 10% of respondents answered that it was necessary to move to negotiations in order to stop the bombardment as soon as possible, even if concessions had to be made to the Russian Federation.
According to the results of the survey, respondents tended to have this opinion even in Ukraine’s east, including the residents of Kharkiv and Donetsk oblasts, which suffer from constant rocket and artillery fire.
The vast majority of Russian-speaking respondents (66%) also believe that armed resistance should be offered, even if bombardment continues. About 29% of Russian-speaking respondents are in favour of starting negotiations, even if concessions have to be made.
The Kyiv International Institute of Sociology conducted the survey using telephone interviews based on a random sample of mobile phone numbers (with random generation of a list of phone numbers and subsequent statistical weighting). 1,000 respondents over the age of 18 living in all the oblasts of Ukraine (except Russian-occupied Crimea) were interviewed.
The sample did not include residents of the temporarily occupied territories, and the survey was not conducted among citizens who left Ukraine after 24 February 2022.
Formally, under normal circumstances, the sampling error (with a 0.95 confidence level and the design effect of 1.1) would not exceed 3.4% for indicators close to 50%, 3.0% for indicators close to 25%, 2.1% – for indicators close to 10% and 1.5% – for indicators close to 5%.
