Armed Forces of Ukraine repel occupiers' attacks in areas of 10 settlements – General Staff report

The Ukrainian military has repelled occupiers’ attacks in the areas of 10 settlements in Kharkiv, Luhansk, and Donetsk Oblasts.

Quote: "The enemy is trying to hold the temporarily occupied territories, concentrating efforts on restraining the actions of the defence forces [of Ukraine] in certain directions; at the same time, it is not abandoning its attempts to conduct offensive actions in the Bakhmut and Avdiivka fronts.

Over the past 24 hours, units of the defence forces repelled the attacks of the occupiers in the area of the Ternova settlement in Kharkiv Oblast, Bilohorivka and Zolotarivka in Luhansk Oblast and Lyman, Ivanhrad, Soledar, Novokalynove, Ozarianivka, Odradivka and Pervomaiske in Donetsk Oblast".

Details: The invaders fire at the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine along the line of contact and conduct air reconnaissance. Russians continue to strike critical infrastructure and civilian buildings in violation of International Humanitarian Law and the laws and customs of war.

During the day, the Russians carried out 5 missile attacks and 19 air strikes, as well as more than 94 attacks from multiple rocket launchers.

About 20 settlements were hit by the occupiers’ attacks. These are Kharkiv, Kupiansk (Kharkiv Oblast); Bakhmut, Odradivka, Mariinka, Zelenopillia (Donetsk Oblast); Zaporizhzhia and Novovoskresenske (Kherson Oblast).

The invaders used air-launched and surface-to-air missiles, as well as Shahed-136 attack UAVs.

The situation in the Volyn and Polissia fronts has not changed significantly. The deployment of the joint regional grouping of the troops of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus continues. During the day, Russian aircraft carried out training flights in the airspace of the Republic of Belarus.

"According to the information available, there have been occasional conflicts between the Russian and Belarusian military based on nationality and the dismissive attitude of the Russians towards the Belarusians," the General Staff noted.

The occupiers carried out attacks on other fronts:

  • on the Sivershchyna front, they opened fire from mortars and tubed artillery, from the areas of Ukrainske, Mykolaivka, Krasnyi Khutir and Hai settlements of Chernihiv Oblast, as well as Pokrovka in Sumy Oblast;
  • on the Slobozhanshchyna front, Russians used from tanks, mortars, barrel and rocket artillery, in the areas of the settlements of Vovchansk, Hatyshche, Hlyboke, Milove, Ohirtseve, Neskuchne, Starytsa, Ternova, Strilecha and Chuhunivka;
  • on the Kupiansk front – from mortars and jet artillery, in the areas of the settlements of Kolodiazne, Dvorichna, Bohdanivka, Berestovу and Kyslivka;
  • on the Lyman front – from tanks, mortars, barrel and jet artillery, in the areas of Karmazynivka, Zarichne, Shyikivka and Terny settlements;
  • on the Bakhmut front – from tanks, mortars, barrel and jet artillery, in the areas of Andriivka, Soledar, Bakhmutske, Bakhmut, Bilohorivka, Verkhniokamianske, Spirne, Ivanhrad, Rozdolivka, Zelenopillia, Klishchiivka and Opytne settlements;
  • on the Avdiivka front – from tanks and artillery, in the Avdiivka, Vesele, Krasnohorivka, Mariinka, Novomykhailivka, Vodiane and Pervomaiske districts;
  • the occupiers did not conduct active offensive actions on the Novopavlivsk and Zaporizhzhia fronts. It carried out shelling in the areas of Vuhledar, Prechystivka, Vremivka, Velyka Novosilka, Bilohirya, Zelenyi Hai, and Mala Tokmachka;
  • on the Pivdennyi Buh front, more than 20 settlements near the line of contact suffered fire damage. Among them are Novovoskresenske, Myrne, Davydiv Brid and Novohrednieve.

According to the data available, a large part of the population has left the city of Kherson. The Russian occupiers remaining in the city have changed into civilian clothes and moved into the abandoned houses. The occupiers are preparing Kherson for street battles.

As of 21 October, the Russian occupiers are conducting measures to free the premises of the Kakhovka Hospital from patients and personnel.

In the city of Enerhodar, Russian soldiers are looting abandoned apartments and hotels.

Along with the search for weapons, the Russian military leadership has not stopped trying to attract foreign mercenaries to the war in Ukraine. According to the information available, recruitment of fighters continues in one of the countries of the Middle East.

Also, according to the General Staff, the level of dissatisfaction with the actions of the military leadership on the part of the civilian population of the Russian Federation is growing. Especially because of the military call-up that is still going on in remote regions, despite the official announcement that it has ended.

On 20 October this year, the defence forces fired on one of the occupiers’ repair bases and their equipment near Nova Kakhovka in Kherson Oblast.

Defence Forces’ aircraft carried out 16 strikes over the past 24 hours. Three strong points and ten areas where weapons and military equipment were concentrated, as well as three positions of the occupiers’ anti-aircraft missile systems, were confirmed to have been hit. In addition, Ukrainian air defence units shot down a Russian Su-25 aircraft and one Orlan-10 UAV on various fronts.

Over the past day, soldiers from Rocket Forces and Artillery hit 2 command posts, 14 areas where manpower, weapons and military equipment were concentrated, an ammunition storage point, a Russian S-300 anti-aircraft missile system, Russian artillery at their firing emplacements and 5 more important targets.
