Possible terrorist attack on Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant to destroy North Crimean Canal – Zelenskyy
KATERYNA TYSHCHENKO – THURSDAY, 20 OCTOBER 2022, 22:47
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy calls on the international community to convey to Russia that a possible terrorist attack on the KHPP [Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant] will be equated to the use of mass destruction weapons, and urged Ukraine’s foreign partners to take preventive measures.

Quote: " All of us – Europeans, world leaders, international organizations – must make it clear to the terrorist state that such a terrorist attack on the KHPP will mean exactly the same as the use of weapons of mass destruction. The consequences for Russia must be appropriate.
The world must react preemptively. This is the key now. The principle of preventive response to security threats should finally become one of the basic principles of international politics."
Details: Zelenskyy said that the occupiers could annihilate the very possibility of supplying water from the Dnipro to Crimea with the planned terrorist attack on the KHPP.
Quote: "The North Crimean Canal will simply disappear in the event of the destruction of the KHPP dam. And if Russia is preparing such a terrorist attack, if it is seriously considering such a scenario, it means that the terrorists are very clearly aware that they cannot hold not only Kherson, but also our country’s entire south, including Crimea."
More details: Zelenskyy also noted that Russia "tried to blackmail Europe with gas and oil, organised sabotage on underwater gas pipelines and critical cables in Europe, tried and is trying to freeze people."
However, the president said, Russia has only lost its power in the European energy market, which it gained since Brezhnev's times [the 1960-1980s], "and will definitely be treated as the most inadequate international criminal."
Background: On 20 October, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the Russians had mined the dam and units of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant (KHPP) and were planning to commit a terrorist attack under another flag [Ukraine’s – ed.].
