Ukrainian defenders shoot down 15 Iranian-made drones out of 20 on Thursday – General Staff report

Over the course of Thursday, 20 October, the Russians carried out a massive attack on Ukraine with Iranian-made drones; 15 out of 20 were shot down.

Details: Over the course of the day, the Russians have carried out 3 missile and 20 air strikes; they have also fired up to 10 times from MLRS. 

Up to 20 cities, towns, and villages came under fire from the occupiers, including Terny, Bakhmut, Vuhledar, and Komyshuvakha in Donetsk Oblast.

The Russian army opened fire on other fronts:

  • On the Sivershchyna front: from mortars and tubed artillery, hitting the settlements of Mykolaivka and Kostobrodiv in Chernihiv Oblast. The invaders also used a UAV loaded with munitions; 
  • On the Slobozhanshchyna front: from mortars, tubed and rocket artillery, on areas in and around Dvorichne, Krasne, and Strilecha. An operating UAV with combat payload was also detected; 
  • On the Kupiansk and Lyman fronts: from mortars, tubed and rocket artillery, on areas in and around Zarichne, Bilohorivka, Torske, Terny, and Yampolivka; 
  • On the Bahmur and Avdiivka fronts: from tanks, mortars, tubed and rocket artillery, striking Bakhmut, Soledar, Zelenopillia, and Yakovlivka; 
  • On the Novopavlivka and Zaporizhzhia fronts there were no active assaults. The occupiers struck positions of Ukrainian defenders and civilian infrastructure in and around more than 35 settlements along the entire line of contact; 

  • On the Pivdennyi Buh front: on more than 30 settlements along the whole line of contact. The invaders launched up to 40 UAVs of various types in order to conduct air reconnaissance missions. 

The military and political leadership of the Russian Federation is officially completing the partial mobilisation. At the same time, several categories of Russian citizens continue to receive mandatory conscription notices. In the village of Mosrentgen in Moscow Oblast, the conscripts were accommodated in a deployment station of the 27th Separate Guards Motor Rifle Brigade in order to go through medical examinations and then be sent to the war zone. Significant problems are emerging amid the mobilisation measures already taken. 

The occupation authorities also keep forcing men from the temporarily occupied territories to go to war. At the same time, they have started evacuating the civilian population along several fronts. 

Ukrainian aircraft carried out six strikes over the current day. It was confirmed that two areas of concentration of the invaders’ weaponry and military equipment, two strongholds, as well as two positions of Russian anti-aircraft missile systems, were hit. In addition, Ukrainian air defence units shot down 15 Iranian-made Shahed-136 kamikaze drones.

Ukraine’s Rocket and Artillery Forces struck a command post, two areas of concentration of Russian manpower, weaponry and military equipment, as well as two munition storage points.

Previously: It was reported earlier that Ukrainian forces had destroyed 14 Iranian-made Shahed-136 drones in Mykolaiv Oblast on the night of 19-20 October.
