Medical worker separated from her 4-year-old daughter returns from Russian captivity
YANA OSADCHA – MONDAY, 17 OCTOBER 2022
Viktoria Obidina, a medical worker who had been separated from her four-year-old daughter Alisa by the Russians, has been freed from Russian captivity.
Ukrinform, a state information and news agency of Ukraine, and Mykola Kuleba, Former Children's Ombudsman, have both reported Obidina’s release.
She is one of 108 women who were released as a result of another prisoner swap between Ukraine and Russia.
"The mother had been in the [Russian] filtration camp on the territory of the [self-proclaimed ‘Donetsk People’s Republic’]; meanwhile, relatives were able to take care of her daughter, a native of Zaporizhzhia.
The little Alisa will soon be able to hug her mom! I’m happy for the family and overjoyed that they will be reunited," Kuleba wrote.
Viktoria was separated from her daughter Alisa on Mother’s Day, in May 2022. The mother was detained in a filtration camp on the territory of the self-proclaimed "Donetsk People’s Republic", while the child was sent to the city of Zaporizhzhia on her own. Alisa’s relatives were then able to take her in and care for her.
