Russians use a new nuclear blackmail tactic
OLENA ROSHCHINA – MONDAY, 17 OCTOBER 2022, 15:05
Energoatom, the national nuclear energy generating company, states that the Russian invaders are disrupting the work of nuclear power plants with attacks on substations; it is possible to prevent new methods of nuclear blackmail from the Russian Federation with sanctions against Rosatom [Russian State Nuclear Energy Corporation], Rosenergoatom [Russian Nuclear Power Plant], etc.

Quote: "Analysing the actions of the Ruscist occupiers in recent days, we can draw a conclusion about a new tactic of nuclear blackmail from the side of the terrorist country.
In recent days, the Russian invaders, shelling the entire territory of Ukraine, deliberately targeted substations connected by high-voltage transmission lines to Ukrainian nuclear power plants.
Although these substations are located quite far (160–200 km) from Ukrainian nuclear power plants, their damage results in the disconnection of the transmission lines through which electricity is transferred from the nuclear power plant to the energy system of Ukraine. And in case these transmission lines are down, the power units of the NPP [Nuclear Power Plant] are placed in emergency shutdown, so that the stations are in blackout mode with the use of diesel generators."
Details: As Energoatom noted, this is the fourth time this happened at the ZNPP [Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant] on 17 October, after the shelling of the substation in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast and the shutdown of the only working 750 kV line.
There were also failures in the operation of another 750 kV line in the area of the South Ukrainian NPP. Its disconnection was noted by the station workers, but, fortunately, it did not have negative consequences for the NPP.
Quote: "Obviously, Ruscist nuclear terrorists are seriously considering such a scenario of nuclear blackmail in order to inflict even greater damage on Ukrainian nuclear plants with unpredictable consequences.
The implementation of such a scenario is also confirmed by the actions of the occupiers at the Zaporizhzhia NPP. In recent days, the invaders began to deliver diesel fuel to the station, preparing for its long operation in blackout mode, which may be the result of the disruption of the Ukrainian energy infrastructure, that ensures the connection of the ZNPP with the domestic energy system."
Details: As Energoatom emphasises, the creation of a safety zone around the Zaporizhzhia NPP is an important step for nuclear and radiation safety, but it will not be enough under constant shelling of substations and power transmission lines remotely connected to nuclear plants.
The company calls for the full set of sanctions to be imposed as soon as possible against the Russian nuclear industry, including Rosatom, Rosenergoatom and other companies that are directly involved in the implementation of the criminal plans of the Russian Federation.
