Death toll after morning attacks on Kyiv rises to four, including pregnant woman

On 17 October, four people were killed when a Russian rocket hit a residential building in the Shevchenkivskyi District in Kyiv.

Update: The  Spokesperson for Kyiv Prosecutor’s Office, Nadiia Maksymets, said that around 15:00, one more body of a killed person (the fourth one - ed.) was pulled out from under the rubble. 

19 people were rescued from the destroyed building.

Ihor Klymenko, Chief of the National Police of Ukraine, has confirmed that three people were killed, including a 59-year-old woman and two young people under 30. Three more people have been hospitalised with injuries of various degrees.

At 13.44 Klychko reported that a young couple, a man and his wife who were expecting a child were among the three civilians killed. The woman was 6 months pregnant. 

According to the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office, the killed couple were both born in 1988. 

Ukrainska Pravda also reported that a woman who was inside a taxi cab was injured by the blast wave. She was hospitalised with acoustic trauma. 

Details: Earlier, at 11:32, Mayor Vitalii Klychko reported that the body of a woman was recovered from under the rubble of a building in Shevchenkivskyi district, and another person remains trapped under the rubble.

Later, the spokeswoman reported that another body has been found, but the cause of death has not yet been established.
The State Emergency Service reported that a total of 19 of the building’s residents were rescued. Another woman was saved. 

Rescue operations are ongoing. Information on casualties is being clarified.

According to Klychko, 28 drones flew towards Kyiv in the morning; most of the "flying terrorists" were shot down, but 5 explosions were heard in Kyiv (4 hits were reported earlier).

One of the explosions occurred at an infrastructure facility, the other at a residential building, as a result of which part of the building from the 2nd to the 4th floors collapsed into the latter.


Under the procedural leadership of the Kyiv Prosecutor's Office, due to the attack on the capital's infrastructure, a criminal case was initiated for violation of the laws and customs of war (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).


According to the investigation, on 17 October, Russian Armed Forces attacked residential and civilian infrastructure in the centre of Kyiv, using kamikaze drones. An explosion occurred as a residential building in Shevchenkivskyi district was hit.

Roadway traffic in several streets in the downtown capital has been shut due to the Russian attack.
