The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine: no changes along the border, Russian forces watched by intelligence

The situation at the Ukrainian-Belarusian border is under control at the moment. No changes have been recorded; the situation with Russian forces in the hinterland is being monitored by the intelligence and similar units of the Defence Forces of Ukraine.

Quote: "The situation is tense yet fully controlled along the border. We have not recorded any changes in the actions of those units of the Armed Forces of Belarus that are strengthening the border with Ukraine, either in staffing or in the character of their actions in general.

Of course, both the Ukrainian intelligence units and all security and defence units are studying and monitoring the situation in Belarus itself, in the hinterland, due to the claims made by the government of that state.

The situation with the units of the Armed Forces of Russia is being monitored as well, since Lukashenko claimed that he is ready to receive a few thousand Russian troops in his country.

Our main task is to strengthen this front. Close attention is paid to both the border with Russia and the border with Belarus…We are doing this so that all the forces deployed on this front are able to repel attacks successfully in the event that either Russian units try once again to carry out an offensive, or the Armed Forces of Belarus enter the war, as we see that Russia is actively pressuring Belarus."

Previously: Trainloads of Russian troops from the newly formed "joint regional force" have arrived in the Republic of Belarus.

Background:

  • On 10 October Alexander Lukashenko, the self-proclaimed President of Belarus, reported that Russia and Belarus made an agreement about the deployment of the joint regional force, and "many thousands" of troops are expected to arrive in Belarus.
  • On 11 October Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine, claimed that Russia is trying to drag Belarus into the war, and some kind of provocation with an alleged Ukrainian attack on Belarus may be organised to justify it.
