Alexander Lukashenko, the self-proclaimed President of Belarus, has confirmed that "counter-terrorist measures" were introduced in Belarus "in connection with the escalation along the perimeter of the borders". However, conversely, the State Security Committee of Belarus [KGB] has reported that the country has not introduced a "counter-terrorism operation" regime.

Quote from Lukashenko: "It [counter-terrorist measures – ed.] was introduced in connection with the escalation along the perimeter of our borders. It was done in accordance with the existing protocol of the union of Belarus and Russia. This was written a long time ago. Everything is going according to plan."
Details: However, the KGB claimed that "no counter-terrorist operation has been, or is now being conducted on the territory of the Republic of Belarus. This information disseminated on the internet is of an unreliable nature."
The Committee referred to the law "On Combating Terrorism", according to which only the KGB of Belarus can introduce such a regime.
Background: On 14 October, Belarusian Foreign Minister, Vladimir Makei, stated that Belarus has introduced a "counter-terrorist operation" regime, allegedly to respond to threats from neighbouring countries.
