Black Sea Grain Initiative: another nine ships leave Ukrainian ports

Within the framework of the Black Sea Grain Initiative, nine ships with more than 150,000 tonnes of agricultural products departed from the Velyka Odesa ports [Odesa, Chornomorsk and Pivdennyi – ed.] to countries of Africa, Asia, and Europe on 12 October.

Details: The KLC Erciyes bulker is among the ships; it will deliver 11,500 tonnes of soy to Egypt; the Simas bulker will bring 13,400 tonnes of maize to Lebanon; and the Agnes Victory tanker will ship 42,000 of oil to India.
The Lucky, the KLC Erciyes, the Elif S, and the Great Arsenal bulkers have departed from Odesa. The Simas, the Jasmin Queen, and the Lugano have left the port of Chornomorsk. The Agnes Victory and the Ege Bey have departed from Pivdennyi.
Quote by the Ministry: "From 1 August, since the moment of the departure of the first ship with Ukrainian food, 325 ships have delivered 7.2 million tonnes of agricultural products from Ukrainian ports to countries of Asia, Europe, and Africa".
Background:
- The United Nations is considering the possibility of extending the Black Sea Grain Initiative for another year.
- As of 11 October, seven million tonnes of agricultural products have been exported since the departure of the first ship. 316 ships left Ukrainian ports loaded with food heading for Asian, European and African countries.
- The European Business Association asked the UN and Turkey to extend the grain initiative and to put the port of Mykolaiv on the list of ports involved in it.
- There is a queue of 120 ships waiting to enter and exit Ukraine’s Black Sea ports. Ship inspections are now taking 10-15 days due to a shortage of inspectors.
