Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov believes that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy can change his mind anytime and start negotiating with Russia.

Quote: "I do not rule out that he (Zelenskyy – ed.) initially refused to allow himself [to negotiate], but later will forget about that, depending on his mood when he gets up in the morning and on what he is going to do. Alternatively, he will get his orders from Washington or London and reply "aye, aye!" and figure out how to explain it all [to fellow Ukrainians] so as to save face. He's an artist, after all."
Background:
- On 30 September, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine was ready for negotiations with Russia, but not with Vladimir Putin, only with another president of the Russian Federation.
- On 4 October, Zelenskyy put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defence Council, which stated the impossibility of negotiations with Putin and the need to strengthen Ukraine's defence capability.
