The Head of the Office of the President presented the members of the Yermak-McFaul group with new topics for discussion, including, first and foremost, the issue of designating Russia a state sponsor of terrorism.

A visa ban for Russian citizens was another important issue that Yermak raised.

The members of the group discussed the need to introduce sanctions relating to nuclear energy, including a ban on importing uranium from Russia. The parties also touched upon the systematic, step-by-step implementation of the price cap on Russian oil, which will significantly reduce budget revenues of the Russian Federation and affect its oil production industry.

Background:

  • On 20 April, the working group presented an action plan concerning sanctions against the Russian Federation, which included – aside from the energy embargo – measures that were designed to prevent Russia from evading the already existing sanctions and further isolate Russia financially and economically.
  • On 18 June, Yermak reported that almost 50% of the sanctions had been implemented.
