President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine said that four ships carrying agricultural products to countries in Asia left Ukrainian seaports on 8 September. He said that the geographical reach of Ukrainian agricultural exports by sea is "very broad".

Quote: "Just today, four ships with agricultural products for Asian countries left our ports.

At this time, over 65,000 tonnes of wheat are entering the port of Sudan for unloading. Yesterday, a bulker with wheat departed for Kenya [carrying] over 50,000 tonnes.

Vessels for Lebanon and Libya are now being loaded in Odesa. In the Pivdennyi Port, a ship bound for India is waiting to be loaded... That is, the geography of Ukrainian agricultural exports by sea is very broad.

Literally every day the grain export initiative continues to operate and refutes Russian lies about it."

Details: Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine supplies agricultural products to consumers from different continents.

Background:

  • Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, said that it is necessary to limit the directions of Ukrainian grain exports via the "grain corridor". He claimed that almost all the grain was directed to the EU rather than developing countries. European Pravda explained why this claim is a lie.
  • Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, responded to the Russian dictator, stating that Ukrainian grain has been exported to three continents: Africa, Asia and Europe.
  • On 8 September, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of Turkey, agreed with Vladimir Putin that Ukraine is allegedly exporting grain to developed countries rather than the countries most in need. Just the day before, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine refuted these claims.
  • As part of the "grain initiative", 2.37 million tonnes of agricultural exports have left Ukraine’s seaports: 54 vessels carrying 1.04 million tonnes of grain to Asia, 32 vessels carrying 0.85 million tonnes of grain to Europe and 16 ships carrying 0.47 million tonnes of agricultural products to Africa.
