Russian forces use MLRS to fire rockets from Zaporizhzhia NPP – The Insider
ROMAN PETRENKO – SUNDAY, 4 SEPTEMBER 2022, 08:33
Investigative journalists have obtained a video of Russian multiple-launch rocket systems (MLRS) operating from inside the territory of the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP).
Source: The Insider, a Russia-focused, independent media outlet
Details: The video was shot on the night of 2-3 September. The footage shows that the MLRS are located in the immediate proximity of the power unit.
The Insider asked experts from the Conflict Intelligence Team (CIT) to examine the video.
Quote: "The footage shows the pipes of the Zaporizhzhia TPP, which are also visible in this panoramic photo from Google. The video was indeed shot from the opposite bank of the Dnipro river, with the camera pointing to the south. This means that the launch site of the missiles are located to the west of the Zaporizhzhia TPP.
Also, to the west of the TPP is the territory of the NPP, but whether the rockets were really launched from inside the plant is impossible to determine for sure."
Background:
- The Insider has previously written that the Russian military is constantly shelling power supply lines to disconnect the station from the Ukrainian power grid, hoping to connect it to the Russian network later.
- On 1 September, as a result of shelling by the Russian army at the ZNPP, operating power unit 5 was shut down, and the ZNPP-330 kV auxiliary backup power line was also damaged.
- On 2 September, Energoatom announced that power unit 5 of the ZNPP, which had been shut down due to shelling by the Russians, had been reconnected to the power grid.
