Russian missiles strike outskirts of Zaporizhzhia, hitting humanitarian convoy: dozens killed and wounded

Russian forces have carried out a missile strike on the outskirts of the city of Zaporizhzhia, hitting a convoy of civilian cars attempting to enter the occupied territory [of Zaporizhzhia Oblast] and leaving 23 killed and 28 wounded.

Quote: "The enemy carried out a missile strike on the outskirts of the [administrative] centre of [Zaporizhzhia] Oblast. Early reports indicate that there are [civilian] casualties. Relevant services are at work at the scene."

Updated at 09:00: Starukh later reported that Russian forces had carried out a missile strike on a civilian humanitarian convoy that was attempting to leave the city of Zaporizhzhia.

Quote: "People were queueing in order to enter the temporarily occupied territory to pick up their relatives or deliver humanitarian aid. There are fatalities and casualties.

Rescue workers, medics and other relevant services are at work at the scene."

Details: As of 09:28, 23 people were known to have been killed and 28 injured.

At 11:30, the Prosecutor General's Office reported that 25 people had been killed and about 50 people injured as a result of Russian military shelling of a humanitarian convoy in Zaporizhzhia.

Anatolii Kurtiev reported at 11:52 that the morning strike took the lives of 24 people (11 men and 13 women died), and another 36 people were injured (24 men, 11 women and one child).

Earlier, Kurtiev reported that there were two attacks: "Today at around 07:00, Zaporizhzhia was brutally attacked by the enemy. After some time, a second attack was carried out."

Tymoshenko reported: "Preliminary reports indicate that 16 missiles were fired using an S-300 anti-aircraft missile system."

Four missile strikes were carried out near the car market area, as well as at a point where vehicles and citizens were concentrated to leave/enter the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine.

Under the procedural leadership of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Prosecutor's Office, criminal proceedings have been initiated for violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with pre-medicated murder (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

1 October has been declared a day of mourning in the city of Zaporizhzhia and Zaporizhzhia Oblast.

Background: The Russians also attacked Zaporizhzhia with rockets on the evening of 29 September, but these were shot down by air defence.
