Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs on new EU sanctions: Hit Putin harder

EUROPEAN PRAVDA — THURSDAY, 29 SEPTEMBER 2022, 23:29

Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, called on the European Union to hand down tougher sanctions against Russia. Kuleba said the sanctions proposed by the Union do not correspond to the scale of the current escalation in the war.

As European Pravda reports, Kuleba wrote about this on Twitter.

"The suggested elements of the upcoming EU sanctions package on Russia do not correspond to the scale of Putin’s escalation and the threat he poses to Europe and the whole world. We encourage the EU to hit Putin harder in order to stop him. This is a crucial moment," said his tweet.

As reported, on Wednesday the European Commission proposed the eighth package of sanctions against Russia due to its invasion of Ukraine and the holding of illegal referendums in the occupied territories. It includes, in particular, a ban on trade with the Russian Federation in the amount of 7.5 billion euros and a legal basis for limiting prices for Russian oil.

Also, in the draft of the eighth package of sanctions prepared by the European Commission, bans on the import of some Russian steel and jewellery products are provided, as well as restrictions on the export of a number of food products to the Russian Federation.

The EU will also expand the sanctions lists and introduce personal sanctions against representatives of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation and representatives of the occupying power controlled by the Kremlin in the four Ukrainian oblasts where the sham referendums of the Russian Federation were held.

The EU expects an agreement on the next package of sanctions against Russia, or at least the main part of the package, before next week's summit.
