Oksana Markarova, Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United States of America, has pointed out that the US is not dismissing Russia's nuclear blackmail and is considering consequences for Russia seriously. Additionally, Washington is sending relevant signals to the Kremlin.

"Therefore, the United States is seriously monitoring this, and we have seen President Biden’s reaction in the recent interview with CBS channel… Everyone feels that the level of danger that is coming from Russia is high, because the Russian Federation and Putin have crossed too many so-called red lines," Markarova said.

The Ambassador stated: even though Washington takes the threat seriously, she does not "see any fear".

"Putin is not accomplishing whatever he has wanted to accomplish with his threats. Despite everyone closely monitoring this, [the] assistance to Ukraine is increasing. And no one is afraid of this blackmail," the Ambassador added.

She added that the USA realises that the nuclear threat is real, and they are sending appropriate signals to the Kremlin.

"Indeed, no responsible leader can dismiss this and say: this is blackmail, we will not pay attention to it at all. Therefore, there are such strong signals, and, I am sure that, our strategic partner is not just giving those signals publicly. We know this, we hear this in the public space," Markarova said.

The Ambassador did not answer the question whether the USA had decided on a response to Russia's potential nuclear attack or not. However, she pointed out that, according to President Joe Biden, consequences for the Russian Federation "would be catastrophic".

"We do understand that any use of nuclear weapons by a nuclear state against a non-nuclear state is a complete destruction of the whole world’s security system, of that deterrence that nuclear weapons carry," she added.
