Quote: "I talked to the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres. We discussed the issue of nuclear security in the context of the threatening situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP."
Details: Zelenskyy also said that he thanked Guterres for his "clear position" on the fact that the UN will not recognise the sham referendums that Russia held in the occupied territories of Ukraine.
Background:
- Russian-appointed puppet governors in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine held sham referendums on the accession of those territories to Russia on 23–28 September and have already announced their results.
- Dmitriy Peskov, the press secretary to the President of the Russian Federation, has said that Vladimir Putin has no plans to make a separate appeal regarding the results of the "referendums" that the Russian invaders held in the occupied territories.
- The Kremlin has decided not to rush the official "accession" of the occupied territories of Ukraine to Russia, and to postpone the closing of Russia’s borders. The latter decision was approved in light of the growing discontent with "mobilisation" among Russian citizens.
