Details: According to a Russian news outlet, no open tickets for a direct flight from Moscow to Istanbul are now available before 23 September for at least 76,000 rubles (US$1,240). On the Russian Aeroflot website, the next available direct flight is on 25 September (920 US Dollars). The Turkish Airlines website states tickets for a similar flight will be available no earlier than 24 September for approximately US$1,325.

Background:

  • In an appeal to Russians on the morning of 21 September, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the partial mobilisation of the country's citizens. Russian Defence Minister Sergey Shoigu announced that 300,000 people will be mobilised into the Russian army.
  • Russian people began to actively look up how to leave the country as well as how to get a deferment from the army, right before the expected speech of the dictator Vladimir Putin, which did not take place on 20 September as planned.
  • Russians are planning to protest on the evening of 21 September against the partial mobilisation announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin that morning.
