The forest fire that broke out in the Krasnopillia hromada (amalgamated territorial community, an administrative unit designating a village, several villages, or a town, and their adjacent territories) in Sumy Oblast (Ukraine) following a Russian attack on 2 September has spread to the territory of the Russian Federation.

Details: Russian forces have fired over 50 mortar bombs, rockets and shells on the Krasnopillia hromada on 2 September.

Different parts of the hromada came under Russian fire three times; a nearby forest caught on fire during one of the attacks.

Quote from Zhyvytskyi: "It was impossible to extinguish the fire because it occurred right on the [border between Ukraine and Russia] and it would have been a grave risk for the emergency workers.

But nature itself is fighting on Ukraine’s side: wind was blowing in the direction of Russia and the fire spread on that side [of the border], making the Russians suffer the consequences of their own attack.

A total of one hectare of forest and fields has burned down on the Ukrainian side of the border. As of now [22:30 - ed.], there are no more flames on our territory."

Previously: Forest fire caused by Russian attacks on the Krasnopillia hromada was raging since 11:00 on 2 September.
