National Police of Ukraine finds torture chamber in liberated Izium

A prison and a torture chamber have been discovered at the police station in the city of Izium, which the Russian army turned into a military base during the occupation.

Source: Investigators are now inspecting the premises. They have found journals with a list of detainees kept by the occupiers, as well as electric cables used as instruments of torture.
Every cell where people were kept is also being investigated, DNA samples and fingerprints are taken, and a database of evidence is collected for the court.
People were kept in dark basement cells from several weeks to months, not even always understanding what exactly the occupiers wanted from them.
Background:
- A mass grave containing 440 bodies was found in the liberated city of Izium in Kharkiv Oblast.
- Local authorities reported that among the bodies exhumed from the mass burial site in Izium, 99% bore signs of violent death.
- The number of people killed in Izium may be several times higher than that reported after the Bucha tragedy, said Oleh Kotenko, Commissioner for Persons Missing Under Special Circumstances.
- President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine mentioned the evidence of war crimes committed by Russian occupying forces in the recently liberated city of Izium in Kharkiv Oblast. He confirmed that the UN would send a mission to Kharkiv Oblast [to investigate these crimes].
