Mykhailo Podoliak, adviser to the head of the President's Office, has urged the German authorities to supply tanks to Ukraine, as a circular supply system does not work and Ukrainians are continuing to die in the war.

Quote from Podoliak: "We have to call a spade a spade: a system of circular supplies does not work. For six months the allies have been arguing about who is going to sell tanks to Ukraine. For six months there have been no tanks, because there is no ‘political solution’. Russia continues its terror, people are dying, time is being lost. Germany, we are waiting for you to speak."

Background:

• Since the success of the counteroffensive by Ukraine’s defence forces, German political parties, especially the coalition parties, have been demanding that the government increase its support for Ukraine by supplying weapons, specifically Leopard 2 tanks and Marders infantry fighting vehicles.
• Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Germany "can’t act alone" in this matter. After this statement, the US embassy noted that Germany should decide for itself what type of aid to provide to Ukraine.
• Dmytro Kuleba, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, said that he does not see any rational arguments in Berlin's reluctance to transfer tanks to Ukraine.
