Man receives 15 years in prison for carrying out Russian reconnaissance in Zaporizhzhia Oblast

The Zhovtnevyi District Court of Zaporizhzhia sentenced a local resident who collected information about the deployment and movement of Ukrainian Armed Forces to 15 years imprisonment with confiscation of all property

Details: A 64-year-old man was found guilty of treason committed by a group of people based on a prior conspiracy.

Prosecutors proved in court that in April 2022, a local man from Zaporizhzhia accepted an offer from his daughter-in-law and voluntarily decided to assist in carrying out subversive activities against Ukraine.

He collected information on the deployment and movement of personnel and combat equipment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Zaporizhzhia Oblast.

The accused used his personal mobile phone to send the collected information to his daughter-in-law, who is a resident of temporarily occupied Melitopol, and who later passed it on to Russian forces.

Russian occupiers used the data received from the traitors to guide and adjust missile strikes on Ukrainian military positions in Zaporizhzhia and its suburbs.

According to the prosecutor's office, law enforcement officers detained the man in April. The SSU reported his detention in August.
