One of Russia’s most massive bombardments of energy infrastructure: Energy Minister describes consequences

Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians were left without electricity on the evening of 11 September as a result of one of Russia’s most massive bombardments of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

Details: The minister said the Russians fired on the Zmiivska power station and three high-voltage substations on Sunday evening. 40 substations of different voltages were de-energised, and two 750 kV overhead transmission lines and five 330 kV overhead transmission lines were disconnected. 

Early reports indicate that four power engineers have been killed and three more are injured. 

Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians were left without electricity in Poltava, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Sumy and Donetsk oblasts. 

At the same time, Halushchenko pointed out that the speed of restoration is inspiring. 

Quote: "Electricity started to reappear in Ukrainians’ homes within only 40 minutes. All main lines were connected after just four and a half hours. Electricity has been fully restored in Poltava and Donetsk oblasts. At this moment, 1,700 consumers in Sumy Oblast, approximately 3,000 in Dnipro Oblast and 12,000 in Kharkiv Oblast are still without power. We are still working on restoring it. 

The heating season has not started yet, and the enemy is already firing heavily on energy facilities. What we can do (and we are doing!) to counter the consequences of such attacks is to speed up our reaction, test back-up power mechanisms, provide resources for this, and arrange for all companies in the energy sector to help each other - for maximum efficiency and speed of work…
