In 10 days, Armed Forces of Ukraine liberated 2,000 square kilometres of territory – Zelenskyy

Since early September, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have liberated about 2,000 square kilometres of the country’s territory from Russian invaders.

Quote: "The movement of our soldiers on different fronts continues. At this time, as part of the actions since the beginning of September, about 2,000 kilometres of our territory have already been liberated.

These days, the Russian army is demonstrating the best thing it can do — it runs away. And, after all, it is a good choice for them to run away. There is no place for the occupiers in Ukraine and there will never be any."

Details: At the same time, Zelenskyy emphasised: "If any of the Russian military is afraid to return to Russia now, we guarantee that everyone detained by our soldiers will be treated in accordance with the Geneva Conventions."

He also thanked fighters of the 15th Sloviansk Regiment of the National Guard of Ukraine, who "excelled on the Kharkiv front."

In addition, the President thanked the soldiers of the 214th Separate Rifle Brigade for securing the situation in Balakliia; together with units of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, Special Operations Forces, Special Forces of the National Guard and the National Police, these fighters reclaimed full control over the city.

Previously: On 9 September, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine had taken control of more than 30 cities and towns in Kharkiv Oblast.

Background: 

• On 8 September, Zelenskyy confirmed the information that army units had liberated the city of Balakliia in Kharkiv Oblast; and on 10 September, it became known that the Armed Forces of Ukraine had liberated Kupiansk and Izium.  
• On 10 September, Nataliia Humeniuk, spokesperson of the press centre of Operational Command Pivden (South), reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are conducting a successful counteroffensive in the country’s southern regions. They have now advanced several dozen kilometres on various fronts.
• Serhii Haidai, the head of Luhansk Oblast Military Administration, said that the Ukrainian military was on the outskirts of previously Russian-held Lysychansk.
