The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) confirms the liberation of the town of Kupiansk in Kharkiv Oblast.

Background:

• The Armed Forces of Ukraine started to conduct a counteroffensive in the Russia-occupied territories of Ukraine.
• On 8 September, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine, confirmed the information that the town of Balakliia in Kharkiv Oblast had been liberated by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
• On 9 September, Zelenskyy reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine had liberated 30 settlements in Kharkiv Oblast.
• According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), as of 9 September, the Armed Forces of Ukraine reclaimed nearly 2500 square kilometers in Kharkiv Oblast during the counteroffensive.
